That reminds me of something similar. I owed some back tax money and called to pay it, but they wouldn't let me because the paperwork was originally filled out using an alternate spelling of my name. Different by one letter.

Typically the IRS doesn't care if you're off by $25 or less. It's not worth their time or money, plus they're way understaffed these days anyway.
