I'm sorry, but I think this is pitiful. Not funny. It's just some of the old Reddit "Let's bash Fox/Repubs/conservatives." It is, in other words, polarizing, which is the direct opposite of what most people want for Voat.

Yep, seems like Reddit has finished migrating.

It makes people seem really uninformed when bias comes up and the only thing they can scream is "OH MA GAAAWD, FOOXNEWWSS IS SOOO BIAASSS"

Then they turn on CNN, MSNBC, ABCNEWS, CBS and think everything is fine......

Voat right now.

At Reddit: "WE WANT FREEDOM OF SPEECH. NO CENSORSHIP"

At Voat: "I HATE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE SAYING. MAKE IT STOP"

Well, I mean OP is just poking fun at how FOX had a lot of well known anti-gay reports, and they're implying they would have had pro-slavery reports due to this fact. I don't think OP is trying to send some "Fuck Conservatives, YAY LIBERALS!" message, or trying to imply one news station is better than the other. Also, I'd have to imagine at points in times the liberal news stations were running anti-gay stories as well. Pretty much anyone these days should be able to understand they all have an agenda to push and it's whatever the polls of their most watched political demographic are saying. Don't get so defensive for no reason.

Fox news lead the pack. I think MSNBC can be just as bad sometimes. CNN, ABCNEWS, and CBS aren't as devoted to a partisan spin as those guys. If you primarly get your news from Cable news you are in trouble anyway you slice it.

Why not both? Humor is known for exaggerating, so I think it can be both: Polarizing and funny.

Yeah, this isn't /v/politics, who gives a fuck if a funny post is polarizing

[–] Daveed 9 points 8 points (+17|-9) ago

If a conservative were to post a counterpart bashing liberals it would not be well received. Conservatives do visit this site and it is unfair to be alienating a demographic.

[–] Jamesx_ 1 point 2 points (+3|-1) ago

Correct. Look at any comedian anywhere. They take a slightly humorous story and exaggerate until everyone is laughing. This is hilarious.

I think people are taking something meant to be funny, way too seriously; but hey at least it wont create a comment grave yard like it did elsewhere.

This thread is filled with "disagree button". Fucking Plebbit migrants.

Stop with this bullshit guys. Save your downvoats for spam and troll content, not things that hurt your feefees or go against your political orientation. It's pathetic, and will be the downfall of this site.

Seriously, stop.

Please.

For the love of Satan.

Really. The downvoat button is not a disagree button.

No, it's not.

Stop. It's not a disagree button.

Use it to clean spam and troll content out of here.

Let's not be Reddit 2.0

It's not a disagree button.

It's not.

In absolute seriousness, it's not.

At least it's original content. Additionally, what's more polarizing, fox news, or calling out fox news for being polarizing?

I'd rather have OC like this than seeing another "look at me..." meme.

While I personally don't think a funny meme is anything to get too upset about, I gotta disagree with the implied argument that "fox news is more polarizing, so calling fox news out in a polarizing way is okay."

It's original in what sense? It's hardly "content." Someone got funny (if your sense of humor runs that way) with a picture of Bill O'Reilly (whose voice/face/words/show I avoid at all costs).

And in an ironic twist of fate, Fox News would finally have a Democrat audience!

Edit: Wow, this has to be my single most popular comment anywhere. Thanks Voat.

For those confused: The south was entirely Democratic. The push to end slavery was Republican.

The Democratic Party then was a totally different party, though. It actually ceased functioning and another Democratic Party took its place, That happened once for Republicanism as well.

You can't really compare political parties from different centuries. The name may be the same, but the stances and ideologues will be totally different.

For those who think he's wrong:

Democrats and Republicans were switched, so what we know as Republicans now were called Democrats back then.

This is funny as the Civil Rights Act was passed by Richard Nixon, and it was during his Presidency that large scale integration of Southern schools finally happened. If you were to read up on Nixon's policies he would qualify today as a moderate Conservative rather than a Neocon.

People rip on Fox news for having a conservative bias... but the same people never mention how MSNBC doctors sound clips and employs reporters who straight up make shit up.

I honestly don't even watch the mainstream media news outlets anymore. Everyone single one is just complete BS

1
2

[–] TicByte 1 point 2 points (+3|-1) ago

It's sad, but every news outlet needs to have a bias to maintain an audience. Changing a person's view on a topic creates cognitive dissonance. You are literally making the reader uncomfortable. That's not a good way to maintain an audience. It's much better just to spoon feed them the same old crap, and maintain their confirmation bias.

The news is biased, there's a narrative being woven. Six companies control most of our news, I wish everyone knew this.

I don't think any other news network is biased to quite the same degree as Fox News, or makes shit up quite as often.

[–] jasotastic 2 points 26 points (+28|-2) ago

Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. Fox News is often cited as a right-wing news outlet. I should think this would be more accurate with Chris Matthews wearing the gray coat.

2
12

[–] baconjam 2 points 12 points (+14|-2) ago

Republican (back then at least) ≠ right wing. They were the progressive, federalist, "big govment" party at the time

0
7

[–] jasotastic 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

Looking at the platform from back then, they appear to be very much conservative--making mention of atrocities faced by the people of Kansas. They also appear to be "big government" only within the confines of the constitution, pushing the federal government to render aid to projects of major federal interest. (Republican Party Platform of 1856)

That doesn't mean jack shit. Republican means something totally different in the modern era.

[–] Gardimus 4 points 2 points (+6|-4) ago

I think the point is that Fox news is clearly on the wrong side of history in the modern era. Not who was with what party 150 years ago. Parties change over time.

I am very disappointed that it doesn't say "Ye Olde'Reilly Factor." But anyway, this just seems like a bit of mindless Fox bashing -- yes, Fox engages in a lot of questionable practices, but it feels like beating a dead horse at this point. It isn't like Fox is more corrupt than the other news stations, and focus needs to put on them as well.

Fox News is a business. It caters to a demographic that desires to be regularly outraged. Why people are attacking this obviously successful business model is beyond me, especially since MSNBC follows the same one on the side of the political spectrum. Are people really surprised a billionaire like Rupert Murdoch likes making money?
