Took me a moment, but it's not that hard to work out.

I made myself invisible and I never got chose for a detail. The called me ninja because they said they would forget my presence if they weren't looking right at me. Of course this also led to them not saving me a plate of chow when they were supposed to, but I would rather that, than burn shit...

Lol, I remember people would yell at me because they said I would just appeared next to them. I honestly had no clue I was doing any of it.

some people contemplate, during curious musings or sleepless nights, what it would be like to have the power to become invisible. grats, guess you don't have to wonder :p

I knew someone who volunteered for an assignment during WW2 assigned to a cargo ship after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He wound up spending the war in Honolulu helping out with decryption. The cargo ship was attacked and sunk. Dumb luck!

That sounds like the opening to Cryptonomicon. Wonder if he ever had a chat with Neil Stephenson.

My grandfather experienced something similar. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor two days before the attack.

He had gotten drunk and ended up in the brig for being so on duty. They had a bible in there, so he started reading it as he sobered up.

He got to the part where it talks about the importance of circumcision in keeping with God's law. He wasn't circumcised and he had his knife on him.

Skipping to the end, he spent his time recovering in California and missed the bombing.

I call bullshit. Nobody makes this mistake after the first week of basic training.
