Being in the army used to mean you were a bad-ass. Especially so for fighting branches like infantry.
It means shit now.
Joining the army nowadays means you're in the same boat as someone who might be there as a plea bargain (true).
The broader you make the gates of entry into the armed forces, the cheaper you make it. The less desirable it becomes. Until it becomes a stigma to have served. (Guess where we are?)
People keep worrying about whats 'fair'.
In life nothing is fair.
In war, if you made things fair, you planned for failure.
