I think that was actually a successful proof of concept for them. The cinderblock doesn't appear to be the payload.

It's a trebuchet. The block is the counterweight and the ordnance is at the end of the arm.

Pretty good job. Question is if the payload went were they were expecting. It sort of just went straight up.
