My patience has nothing to do with the possibility of crippling debt from a terminally ill child.

Kids hardly ever get sick, you're letting your anxiety control your life.

Yes, bad things may happen at some point in your life, but that's no reason to give up and never try at anything.

Your ancestors didn't give up because there was a slim chance their boat may crash and kill everyone, they didn't stay home from a war to defend their city because there was a chance they may get impaled by a spear. They didn't choose to not have a child because there was a chance it might get sick and die. And yes, medicine would impoverish you back then, too.

You're the end result of thousands and thousands of years of struggle and perserverance against all odds. Your ancestors look down at you through the ages, stretching out their hands in goodwill to continue their eternal line. You answer the call with... a dog.
