300,000 people that just murdered 6 million big-nosed alderaanians.

Are you saying the alderaanicaust never happened?

There's no evidence that the Empire vaporized Alderaan....

Are you really just going to blindly take the word of religous nutjobs without proof?

Lemme guess, you saw it on Alex Jones right?

The explosions started before any shots were even fired, every video shows that. I won't even get in to the ridiculous of one laser taking down an entire space station.

I'm not saying it didn't happen. I'm just saying Tarkin did nothing wrong.

He needed the Death Star to fight the exogalactic aliens he knew were coming to exterminate the galaxy.

2 Billion.

It was a planet. Not a medium sized city.

I heard of extra fluff from the novels that there's a super powerful alien race from outside their galaxy on their way to wage war.

The thing is, as bad as the Sith is, they're the galaxies best hope of fighting them off with their super militarized empire with mega weapons. If the Jedi were in charge the galaxy would essentially get rolled when the aliens arrive.

Also, the emperor was able to see them coming in the future with his Jedi powers and probably a partial reason for making the death star.

You are absolutely correct. If you're interested at all, look into the Dark Empire saga.

Yeah, that's why Grand Admiral Thrawn tried to unify the galaxy in Timothy Zahn's novels (although the Yuuzhan Vong weren't invented yet, they were retconned into those events in later novels).

[–] CobraStallone ago

Yeah, the Yuzhan Vong, they are the real edgelords of the galaxy, not the Sith. And Palpatine did want to unify the Empire to fight them, but fucking up the Republic and burning through the droid and clone armies, plus getting rid of the jedi, was definitely the wrong approach, in my opinion.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: the empire are the good guys. other than music cues and narrative focus there's literally no reason to think otherwise.

oh what, alderon? the "peaceful planet" ? i haven't seen rogue one, but apparently it had a rebel base with plans on how to blow up the death star. so that was bullshit.

the jedi are hypocrites; "only a sith deals in absolutes" while the sith can see both sides of the situation "from my perspective the jedi are evil"

and look at episode 7- how the fuck are they still "the resistance" after being the establishment so long?

[–] Vladimara 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

Right on, I've been saying it too! Well, when I've had the chance.

The Imperials did what exactly to justify removing their entire regime creating a massive power vacuum? And what did the resistance do afterwards? People make order 66 to be like one of the worst things possible, but tbh the systematic take down of multiple organizations that want to overthrow your rule, is pretty justified in most cases.

I will always unironically say that Darth Vader did nothing wrong. I wonder if it was written on purpose like that, or if they were just really bloody incompetent as script writers...

Darth Vader did plenty wrong, though. Otherwise he wouldn't have ended up without all his limbs.

To be fair the New Republic establishment came from the "rebellion". The "resistance" is a splinter group from the New Republic formed by Leia. The New Republic and the Galactic Empire basically demilitarized after signing a treaty so the New Republic couldn't take an overt military actions against the First Order. So the resistance (while admittedly they are getting help and tacit approval from the New Republic) is not actually a part of the establishment nor is it a part of the rebellion. They are kinda like a paramilitary militia.

Yes but it didn't permit fucking goats, raping women, keeping slaves or beheading people who denied the force. Funny enough that's what Darth Vader did.

I find your lack of faith disturbing

Given the size of the death star, and how many ship ports it had, guards, etc. I'm willing to bet that number is closer to 300 million if not 300 billion.

It was highly automated.

[–] Apathy 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Automation aside, it's the ultimate force of military power in the universe. It also has vasts amounts of space that was built and would go to waste if not used. Why wouldn't the death star carry entire legions of storm troopers ready to deploy anywhere in the galaxy? In the movies the death star was never followed around by a fleet (and if it was, the fleet was tiny enough to be ignored). So why wouldn't the death star itself house a fleet, since you know, it could. It could literally be building half the star destroyers in the empire, just because it's already in space and could house the materials, workers, etc with ease.

There's a lot more to it than needing people to press buttons or check the temperature gauges.
