Comparing an adorable bovine to fatass Amy Shumer is just plain mean.

Like telling smokers, if they didn't smoke the could afford a Corvette, while not smoking or owning a corvette.

My buddy quit tobacco after I pointed out how much weed he could afford if he gave it up. So I mean, hey, it works.

I really hope weed replaces cigarettes. I miss the casual smokers crowd. Just make good tasting/smelling tame weed cigs for chain smokers

Now, I'm not your normal animal lover. I'd be down for eating human stew, long as the human was on board with the whole process and was compensated in a way they agreed to. But I do think there's a solid argument for giving your food some respect on its way to your plate.

I also think if people were more cognizant of how similar we really are, they'd be less keen to be "carnivores". Leather used to be seen as "magical" and still having the soul of the animal that produced it in it. Meat tastes delicious as a reward for a challenging hunt.

In other words, I think the only cows I should be eating are the ones that are my friends. Those ones I know had a good life before reaching my plate. Slaughterhouses are brutal, and if they were a necessity I could get over it, but they're not. It's easy to get enough protein and fat without meat (the meat turned plants into that protein and fat in the first place), so it's pointless pain for an unhealthy "luxury" that isn't even that great because 1) Slaughterhouses don't produce top quality meat and 2) When you have it all the time, it stops being a luxury, the rarity is part of what makes meat so delicious in the first place.

I personally just feel really attuned with the "humans are animals" side of things. Which both means we're capable of as much (or more) 'harshness' (what's the difference between edward gein and an orangutang that bites a woman's hands off?) and capable of much more for having the faculties we do (there are very few animals that have the capacity to care for an injured animal of a different species, the only two I know of offhand are dolphins and humans, maybe elephants do it too?). We really are "barbarians with culture" in a lot of respects, I feel.

Actually, everything I've seen indicates humans are herbivores that gained the ability to eat meat during a glacial period as a way to store heat in the cold. Easy way to get some fat on. Our digestive tract is too long for meat (it starts to go rancid before it's fully processed), though, which supports my "rare treat" theory.

I used the term "carnivore" disparagingly to refer to people who are still living in the early 2000s reading Maddox and thinking they're funny for saying "hurr hurr for every animal you don't eat, I'll eat three". Because they think that their poor health choices are an insult to me or something, I don't know. I was an edgy fifteen year old once too, it doesn't make sense to me as an adult though.

We're not well adapted to eating meat. I doubt we ate it at every meal before we invented fire.

Humans aren't meant to eat other humans. That's how you get kuru. Prions are no joke

Only eat human if it's an absolute last resort and even then never ever ever eat the brain.

From what I know of kuru, it's extremely rare and basically limited to one tribe that practiced ritual cannibalism within families, it's not just going to pop up out of nowhere. It also sounds like it's basically BSE/"mad cow disease" (which becomes CJD in humans), which comes from letting spinal tissue infect the meat.

Not to mention it lays dormant for like... 10-50 years at a time. Lung cancer doesn't stop many people from smoking, and that experience is way less novel than human meat would be.

There is no "meant." Nature doesn't have intentions, only adaptation.

...and passed a thorough health inspection, and providing I could inspect it myself 'on the hoof' so to speak (I might be able to skip the last part once it has become mainstream and we have proper protocols in place).

I can't imagine it'd be a widespread practice ever. But that's just supply & demand. I've never felt like suicide should be illegal, and maybe that'd be a good "productive" outlet for those people to use. Don't feel like you have anything of value to contribute to society? Well your rump roast is worth $5,000 on the open market, so you can apologize to your parents with a check.
