But illegals pay sales taxes, so maybe its a net-net? I doubt they touched their infrastructure budget to pay for illegals, the roads in Sacramento are nice! The rest of the state, not so much.

Unlike states like Oregon, there's no legal requirements that the gasoline tax has to go to roads or infrastructure in California; so the money gets siphoned off to pet projects. Last time I was on I-80, it was in pretty poor shape, but that was 10 years ago; I've heard it's only gotten worse.

Heading through Sac on I-5 is about the same as I-80. Caltrans seems to be doing quick fixes like filling up potholes.
