I've never seen a dog that has learned to point like a human. When you point at something with your hand dogs will just look at your hand, later they can learn that you want to focus on something in the distance. If you want a dog to look at what your looking at you can look at it, squint and grunt, that will get the dog's attention because that is how dogs point, with their faces. But a dog that picks up its paw and points like a human, never saw that one before.

Never had a dog that could point, but all my dogs have been able to understand when a human points at something to look at or go to that something.

It's learned, when they're young the look at your hand, through experience they understand what you want.
