Brings back memories of when I worked at Toys R Us. When people would by large items (like swingsets) we would ask them if they had a truck because the box was so big. Invariably they would respond with "No, but I think it will fit." then we ended up like the person above.

They do know they can rent a truck by the hour at home depot right?

I didn't know that.

Some times you can just take everything out of the box and it will fit depending on what it is, had to do that earlier this year to get a new BBQ home.

Did you have to help them load it or was it their problem to deal with?

We always tried to help. It's amazing what you can accomplish with a little twine and some ingenuity. ;)

I work at a furniture store. There have been countless times that people have bought a couch or dining room table and then pulled up in a sedan. Even when we know for sure it won't fit, we try anyways so they don't complain.

One woman bought a light TV stand (you know, one with cupboards and drawers) and pulled up in a convertible Beetle. She told us just to put it in the back and leave it sticking out. We did just that and I can only hope it made it home in one piece.

This is why you should just order your product online and have it delivered if you don't have access to a truck or a trailer. $20 in shipping is worth saving you the embarrassment and time wasted.

embarrassment

What's that? After a certain point you don't get embarrassed anymore.

It's tunnel vision, and I've declared war on this fucking box so stand back, it's going to fit.

Something that large will probably cost more then $20 to ship, but a lot of retailers have some kind of delivery option for large items.

Or the cost from braking it when if falls out on drive home.

It is more like $60 for shipping and more if they have to get it from the shelves themselves. But it is still worth it having it delivered to your house if you have no truck and/or don't want to bother someone else to help you.

Just put it in reverse and slam the pedal down.

Turns into a battering ram for the storefront... the perfect crime.

This looks like a ton of people at the IKEA over by the Portland Airport.

Get out of here with your trunk privilege!

Oh god, you would be surprised at the amount of people who do this. I worked at an electronics retailer and a lady came in to buy a 55" tv with her mini cooper and was convinced it would fit because "you would be surprised how much you can fit in there!"

The hatchback with fold-down back seats is an amazing thing, although it can be overestimated. I moved 36" door in one.

Just gotta fold the back seats down, it'll slip right in. Or tie to the roof with twine and then securely hold on to it from inside the car. Both work wonders.

So many mattresses I've seen acting as air brakes on top of a car going down the highway just waiting for their moment to break free.

Well sure, you have to tie 'em down like that, otherwise you can't see. A piss poor, potentially deadly hack job of securing it down, though? That's apparently ok..

That's what she said.
