Over 50% of the US pays no income taxes. When people have no stake in the game, they don't understand consequences. Which is why when the country was founded only land owners were allowed to vote.

A million fucking times this. If you don't contribute to the purse you have absolutely no business dictating how that money is spent. NONE!

Land owners only huh? Kinda leaves those contributing members of society who can only afford to rent out in the cold, doesn't it?

Would you mind defining pays no income taxes? The last time I dug into that definition, the study made the claim that if you got food stamps or some other benefit, then it was like not paying any income tax, despite the taxes still going to the feds in a round-about manner. Also, Social Security is a tax based on income. I'd even argue it's an income tax that exists at all pay levels as I recall earning minimum wage and having it pulled from my paycheck.

Not to mention sales tax, property tax, gas tax, road tax, and the hundreds of other taxes we all pay. I think "don't pay taxes" is being confused with "don't owe income tax."

Last official report I saw (in 2012) was that 47% of Americans paid no federal income tax.

I believe children, prisoners, the elderly in poverty, government employees and servicemen all are included in the "don't pay taxes" column. I could be wrong, but fairly sure of that.

Quite true. Sadly, our abysmal education system doesn't explain why it was set up that way. If everyone is going to be allowed to vote, we need an amendment setting some things off limits, like no voting for wealth redistribution.
