Gee, I wonder why women don't go into tech?

Yeah, because there are no fat male programmers, right?

People treat women's interest in STEM like a French waiter would treat a fragile soufflé: one tiny little nudge and the woman's interest in an engineering career completely collapses. Meanwhile men that are passionate about the field have often dealt with lifelong bullying and ostracization for being nerds, but they doggedly pursue engineering anyway. Why? Because it's a passion, and they want to do it. It's not some some fleeting fancy that requires a hundred little social coincidences to all come together to coddle them until they accidentally slip into a successful job. It's a discipline in the literal sense of the word, and it requires gumption and lasting desire.

If you stop pursuing a career because you heard a few insults, guess what? You weren't that interested in it in the first place.

Weird, that they always cry out, that we need more women in STEM fields. Or other fields that pay pretty well. Where's the call for true gender equality? More women in wars, sewers, mines and garbage dumps! Why is gender inequality okay in those cases? Because it's dirty, dangerous, looked down upon and on top doesn't pay well. Shocker.

That was extraordinarily well written. This should be the go-to response every time the discussion arises.

It was bad enough 20 years ago when I was a student engineer and people literally treated me like I'd fall apart if any criticism was ever thrown in my direction.

All I have ever wanted through my entire career was to just be treated with the same level of scrutiny as the guys, because this shit is what I was born to do. It's who I am far more than my genitals are.

i just don't see anyone in that picture being successful in any tech field, mostly because of personality issues and potential conflicts. it's just a disaster and lawsuit waiting to happen and any HR rep would wisely steer clear. to satisfy any required government quota for female employment, hire post-menopausal women as financial administrators and secretaries. problem solved. elephants can then go find another small company to destroy.

We also have a shortage of female sewage cleaners.

Of the jobs I've worked, all three of those women look useless when it comes to actually working. I wonder how they get jobs at all really. You're never going to see one of these useless cunts complain they can't get hired at construction companies as laborers.

"Why is the tech industry still so male dominated?"

Why is the daycare industry still so female-dominated? It's almost like, dare I say it... men and women are capable of making their own decisions, and often pick different career paths! gasp

If there were more male HR employees, maybe fewer of them would be useful and not in bed with administration. Maybe I just drew the HR short stick.

I've still never heard of a good reason why they need more women in the industry....just to make people who aren't in the industry feel better about themselves?

Hi. Chick in a STEM major here.

Any girls I've met along the way haven't given a fuck about how many girls there are. Whenever I hear someone bitching about how tech needs more females I ask what they majored in. If it's not something in STEM, just tell them to shut the fuck up and that their opinions don't matter.

Unfortunately most females in my university who are in STEM are so full of them selves from all the ways they are trying to cater to them that they now think they are able to shit bricks of gold.

Pretty much, yeah. Women want all of the cushy jobs that they otherwise would be incapable of obtaining, for various reasons; but with the same amount of effort that it would take to learn to mix drinks. Because any extra struggle that they'd have to endure beyond that, would be seen as "unjustly difficult" and "exclusionary". Basically, if the current year were ~thirty years ago: they'd be the soccer moms pushing the coach to give their kid a participation award, so they don't feel left out— while suggesting that they stop keeping score all-together because then the losers would "feel bad" and "no one should feel like a loser".

More succinctly: women took the concept that "men should always hold the door open for a lady" and fucking ran with it.

I probably should've done electrical engineering instead of computer engineering because I like hardware better than software, but it's at he point now where it's all just problem solving for me anyway.

I have to get my hands dirty doing the DIY at home. I took a course in industrial motor controls just because I thought it would be fun, and it had a lab component. It was.

I guess I'm a defective female.
