Great post - the "Goddamn kids these days" want more social help & programs and more taxes to support them. It's a reasonable argument/perspective. There are reasons why it might not work out very well, but it could have many benefits. There's also a philosophical fairness battle. Right or Wrong here is a matter of perspective. I'm conservative fiscally, so I wouldn't support this movement, but you have to respect it as reasonable.

Social Security, on the other hand, is objectively bad. It's a lie, and the money used to pay for it doesn't exist. I mean, you can "create" it in an abstract way (which ultimately becomes a tax of sorts, as you said). You're borrowing money from people who didn't agree to give it to you, paying yourself with it, and sticking the bill (interest) to people who don't exist yet. Now THAT'S wrong, and it's not a partisan issue.

For all the squaking you hear about how badly our veterans "are treated" - it's funny because I work with about a dozen veterans who get good healthcare because they have jobs.
