There is no such thing as munchausens syndrome by proxy, this was made up by a discredited British psychiatrist who told a court that a nurse accused of murder suffered from it. It turned out that he pulled this diagnosis out of his ass in order to seem knowledgable and important, he was struck off because of this idiotic lie. But as for lardbucket hamplanets?

While the term Munchausen syndrome by proxy isn't used the condition was included as a proposal in the DSM IV, and formally recognized as a disorder in the DSM V under the name factitious disorder imposed on another. Courts in America recognize the condition named in the DSM V, and courts in Britain recognize the condition by another name.

The condition was first identified in the 1950's by Dr. Asher, and the name was coined in a paper in the 1950's by Dr's Money and Faith.

The Doctor you referred to was Dr. Meadow whom had all of the cases he was involved in reviewed because he gave misleading evidence (ie: false statistics, hiding the fact that staphylococcus was present, etc). However, most of the convictions were upheld. Also, upon review of his license by the British medical council he was found guilty of "serious professional misconduct," and had his license revoked. During appeal, though, the punishment was considered "absurd" and set aside so that he could practice medicine again.
