I want to go until I can do a one handed pull up. I have a way to go. When do the noob gains stop?

Noob gains first year or two. After that, you will notice a decrease in your rate. Happens to everyone not on gear. Just keep going.

The rate at which you make gains will steadily slow down unless you increase the intensity of your workouts, and even then it will still probably slow down. Only mentioning it so you know that there is nothing wrong with that and that you should keep it up without being frustrated about lack of quick gains.

Yeah, crusades will be hard if we look like this:

EDIT: Look at all their hateful comments directed towards us. They actually act like this young fellow embodies the entire alt-right movement. There is a tremendous amount of hatred being cultivated on such a grand scale. Do we actually stand a chance of winning?

Good for you. I have lost 28 pounds in the last 4 months by lifting. I was in pretty good shape about 10 years ago then had a run of bad luck with injuries, broke a rib in BJJ, then tore an oblique muscle on the opposite side, dislocated my right knee, then had a motorcycle accident. Finally healed fully from everything and feeling good. Keep it up!!

Any advice on how to avoid injuries in BJJ? I've been rolling for about 7 months and have just had small sprains so far. I'd prefer to avoid broken bones and torn muscles though.

Be careful with lower belts. Many new folks don't know how to not hurt someone yet. Remind them about keeping their hands flat when rolling over them, etc. not worth crushing their hand or sublaxing one of your ribs in the process. They also need to be careful with things like heel hooks, shoulder locks, etc. Not knowing where the limit is can seriously hurt people. Also avoid angry people, sore losers, etc.

For me I am a barrel chested person, my ribs protrude out more because of this, that was the cause of the broken rib and the torn oblique. Other than that no other injuries from JJ. My only advice is some times you just have to tap. I started wearing a rib wrap under my gi to help give more support to my ribs.

145 is not weak dude a lot of noobs start at only 50 lbs. People with bench low often squat like beasts though so I think genetics are in play.

walked into the gym 1 1/2 half years ago after recovering from a brain tumor. Benched 155 4x. And was surprised I could do that. Can now bench 300 4x. Push , pull. flat bench, incline and military press. Dead lift , pull and row. Legs. if you commit to 3x a week and really try you'll be amazed.

Did you switch up your diet? I have seen many reports that the ketogenic diet can make results happen even faster.

So far I haven't worried about diet except to make sure to eat lots of protein. I haven't gained or lost weight, but I'm getting stronger of I'm assuming that I'm trading fat for muscle. From the reading I've done, initial gains are easier to make, the first pound of muscle is 1000% easier to put on than the last pound of muscle. Anyway, I'd love to do a ketogenic diet again. I lost 60 lbs on one before and kept the weight off for quite a few years as well.

Hell yeah that's good for you! Cancer cells have quite a hard time living in a body that is in ketosis as well. Keep it up mate!

Remind me to let you know how I'm doing in 2 months. I'm right where OP started as far as lifts. 6'0 145 lbs 76in. wingspan Eating 3200 calories strict paleo + dairy and potatoes. My bench progress is going to be a hard journey.

Nothing is stopping you but you. Get at it and ask questions here if you need help.

You should add daily push-ups to your routine, like those /v/theredpill guys are doing. It's basically free volume. It won't make you appreciably stronger, but it'll help with making consistent progress with your chest and triceps.

What routine are you following? You can bench press more than once a week you know.

I am going for strength, so I try to lift heavy. I am upping it 5 lbs a week. I alternate days so I get 3 arm days and 2 'leg' days, then I take Saturday and Sunday off. Right now my leg days are spent on some lateral machine that just tears me up. I've done a lot of walking so my legs are strong, this hits the muscles that aren't used just walking.
