Get into program because you are minority, cry discrimination when you fail miserably, they pass you anyway, get injured doing routine non strenuous activity; watching western society commit suicide get more painful everyday.

Since she was injured on duty, she is eligible for a disability pension that would pay three-quarters of her annual salary, tax-free, if deemed unfit to return.

This is the bit that angers me the most, she's basically retired now as she'll eat herself into a permanent disability payment.

This is unsustainable. Eventually, the city and state of NY will go bankrupt. This is the natural order of things.

Serves NY right. If she wasn't too unfit to be accepted then, the shouldn't be too untit to be accepted now. Keep the cunt in back lines doing some mundane shit in the meantime.

Wtf.. I think, since she failed a physical test required for the job, she shouldn't be given any disability pension when she hurts herself on the job. It's like talking to a kid who does something despite telling them they will hurt themselves/fail. They should be treated the same. "See? The physical test told you you would fail the job, yet you wanted to do it anyway. Now what have we learned here people?"

The pension should go to those men and women who actually hurt themselves in the line of duty.

And less money from the budget to pay an actual firefighter to save lives. winning.

Eventually that hambeast will be on disability. If that happens, it'll die soon.

They won't even have a reason to leave the house, they'll bloat up to 400 pounds and have a heart attack. The end.

It was cheaper to hire them rather than defend (and probably lose) discrimination lawsuit. I wonder if she will sue now for the city lowering standards and letting her do a dangerous job she was unqualified for. That would be the final (in)justice.

But the money wasted on this hire is the smallest problem. What happens if someone needs the fire department and their life depends on her performance? This is a job where incompetence can directly result in people dying.

She was a priority hire due to a discrimination lawsuit.

That judge goofed up good.

I work in a job where I have to remain an expert in a particular field. If I stop maintaining my expertise, I cease to be useful, and will be let go. This is because I'm not helping my employer make money, so there is no reason for my employer to give money to me.

How come people whose job is to maintain a capable body don't have to play by the same rules?

It's called the public sector. When the income of money is endless (taxes) nobody gives a shit.

Because the government doesn't make money. Unlike a business it doesn't have to be profitable. It takes money by force.

It takes money by force.

It's either a government taking tax dollars, or a warlord taking it at gun point. Take your pick.

Give it time. There's more than enough fat emergency workers that this is bound to happen before too long to at least one of them.

That already happened. BCFD recruit Rachel Wilson died in a training burn because she was fat and couldn't get over a three foot tall windowsill.

So, you were let down by your job fitness not being at the required level? Imagine if there was some kind of "fitness test" which could determine whether an applicant was suitable for the job. I might even suggest that not being let in due to failing this "fitness test" would have prevented this entire incident.

I think it sounds a bit oppressive too, don't you think? Necessary requirements? Safety considerations? Efficiency of the emergency services? It all sounds like fatphobic buzzwords to me.

That sounds like a pretty awesome idea but I'm sure people would scream disctimination. I mean, what if someone in a wheelchair wanted to become a firefighter and save people from burning houses? It'd be discrimination to have a fitness test then.

Doirin-Holder, who turns 40 this month, is one of 282 “priority hires”

Someone's got their priorities wrong.

Also, guess the gender.

Anyone else notice how a preponderance of black women look like ugly males? I saw a slender one in the dentist's office; if it weren't for the female body and the fact that she was holding her child, I wouldn't have been able to tell judging by face alone. Kanazawa would have a field day with this submission's thumbnail.

Muh thin privilege: being able to stand on one fucking foot. Gee...I'm starting to wonder if maybe that physical test may have been implemented for a reason!

My sister worked for the Fire Service here in the UK, in an administrative job. At the age of 40, and being a single parent she worked her arse off to pass the physical requirements to become a Retained (Part-Time) Firefighter. (The tests are exactly the same as for Full-Time Firefighters.) She did the job, brilliantly for four years; and only gave it up when she moved areas. She now works for the FireService in another County as an Emergency Call-Taker.

This womans' preferential treatment not only puts her Colleagues and the Public in serious danger; it makes people like my sister, (who worked damned hard to ensure that she was physically capable of the job), look bad.

If she ends up getting a pension for this, it will be proof that far from being "oppressed" the SJW's have won. The lunatics are running the asylum, for sure.

Edit: As far as I am concerned, any preferential treatment laws should NOT apply for this type of work. Firefighters need to be physically fit and of a build to allow them to deal with horrendous situations to save lives. It is one profession that should only be a meritocracy.

This was her third attempt at passing the class.

Doirin-Holder started another class in early 2014 but dropped out because of an injury. The FDNY then gave her a desk job and kept her on the payroll at top firefighter salary, $76,488. She made $81,376 with overtime in 2014 and entered her third class this summer.

$81,376 hoooooooooooly fuck. Why? She was a fucking desk jockey, only risking her life to get to the fucking vending machine.

Didn't they make they test easier for girls? Like god damn.

Even worse than that part:

Since she was injured on duty, she is eligible for a disability pension that would pay three-quarters of her annual salary, tax-free, if deemed unfit to return.

Now all of you have to pay for this slob because she is too fat to walk down stairs.

For a lot of departments, when taking the CPAT (the physical test) it is the same for males and females. All those who pass the test are ranked on a list based on their times, and sometimes they give females or other minorities a "20 second preference" over everyone else. They still have the pass the thing, but they are sometimes ranked higher than they actually placed.
