Or they had a teacher that just handed out A's to anyone who showed up for class. When I was in grad school part of my teaching assistant position was assigned hours in the tutoring lab. God, I fucking hated that. People like this would show up the day before the exam and expect that somehow I'm going to be able to re-teach the entire month's worth of material that will be on the exam after they haven't lifted a finger to help themselves. Or they would show up an hour before their lab starts and expect that I'm going to do their pre-lab questions for them. I would always ask "what do you not understand" and "show me what you have tried so far." If they didn't have something to show me I would just point to the relevant section in the book and tell them to re-read it.
