A good amount of university is middle school and high school material taught using a different method. It wouldn't surprise me if that's a "difficult" concept in first year chem.
If he can't read the Periodic Table it's funny, if the prof expected the class to memorize it it's funny that he fucked up H2.

If you think he's looking at your work(especially if it happens during quizzes), you should probably go to the professor and voice your concerns. Most colleges have some form of academic honesty thing, so bringing it up before something occurs may help solve a lot of problems.
