Meat is so insanely cheap where I live. I can get any kind of meat - beef, chicken, pork, steak, veal, elk, turkey, sausage etc for less than $1/lb. The type varies by week buy the guy who does markdowns on the meat basically can't do math. He'll put a $5 off sticker on a $5.11 pack of meat. Sometimes, he puts reductions that exceed the price of the meat so it's actually better than free. I really hope he never gets fired. Veggies on the other hand, the pickings are slim. Produce is either rotten or so hard it won't be ripe until next year. I'm always paying $3 or more per lb and it's always subpar. Carrots and head lettuce are about the only fresh veggies I can get cheap. But frozen and canned don't really vary in price so even if a ham is in my situation produce-wise, they can still just have a stir-fry or steamed veggies like I do. It's still way cheaper than buying huge bags of chips, cases of soda, frozen dinners, and checkout candy. Pure laziness plain and simple.
