Morning all.
I sat down with my toast and coffee this morning and opened The Sun (Don't judge me, I like it for it's 'anti-PC' viewpoint and it's light heartedness) and was quite surprised to be greeted with the shitlordiest editorial I have seen for a while in a newspaper. And they even managed not to put a 'free Greggs pasty' offer on the next page!
Here it is for your perusal in case you are not British or simply don't want to be seen buying a copy of The Sun:
Growing Pains
The explosion in under 12s weighing over 15 stone (210lbs) is profoundly disturbing.
They are on the fast track to diabetes, cancer, heart and liver disease and early death.
Some people will blame fast food, fizzy drinks, the seductive lure of advertising and demand the Government 'does something'. And, yes, it would help to encourage kids to spend more time exercising.
But the inescapable fact is that morbidly obese primary-age kids who do not have a medical condition are the victims of disastrous parenting that is tantamount to child abuse.
Social workers must intervene and if need be, take the children into care. Shock tactics might just wake their parents up - and save the kids' lives.
Wow. This is a newspaper with an average circulation of about 2 million, the largest in the UK. Admittedly the medical condition thing would in no way account for a 15 stone kid, but it is great to see this attitude in the popular press.
The Sun nearly always refers to obese people as 'Fatties' and rigorously shitlords them, even giving Saint Katie of FPH a mouthpiece, so I look forward to seeing more of this sort of thing over my breakfast in the future. Nothing like starting the day with some triggering truths.
