Make it a feature. Call them 'customizable' and then mention in the small print that the custom message will wash out easily so you can update it at home with a new one. Now it works as promised!

Nah, that takes out the shock. The shock is what would make it an effective shitlording tactic. It is the expectation of something awesome turning out to being a letdown of the reality.

Then just say you can send them an iron on template so they can fix it themselves?

You'll need to have pretty good customer service at first, so they'll tell their friends and/or buy more. So maybe have the ink disappear/start falling apart after a few washes. Then offer refunds, which are always on back order.

You're right, but I was trying to dodge legal problems. I guess with the interwebs such as they are, all it would take is one tumblerina that actually read the small print and it would be over...
