Foodie. Pardon my incoming literal French, but what a fuckin' lame word.

Here are the French gradations of "foodie":

Gourmet: We all know this one - a lover of fine food.

Gourmand: A gourmand is the type to take seconds. The noun would be gourmandise, as in, "I had extra dessert tonight - what gourmandise." Does not preclude love of fine food, but suggests indulgent eating habits. One can commit occasional gourmandise without being a habitual gourmand.

Glutton: like gourmand, a word you'll recognize from English usage. One who goes way too far with the food. Now we're crossing from behavior to lifestyle/identity.

Goinfre: A god damn pig with no discernment and no self-control. Shovels food down gullet without discrimination. An open-mouth-chewing, ketchup-stained-shirt wearing, on-public-transportation-eating hog.

I love that the French have one category of revolting food behavior beyond glutton.
