Made an account just to share my experience at Marshall's (supposedly fancier version of Winners in Canada).
Despite being only 130lb at 5'6", I have big boobs and a long torso so I haven't fit into a small shirt since I was like eleven. Blouses are a special treat to buy, but any shirt needs to cover the cleavage, especially for work. I've always generally worn a large or even extra large, depending on the brand.
I was at Marshall's getting a new gym bag and randomly spot a couple cute tops with higher necklines. Both were mediums, but they were on sale so I tried them on. One was a little baggy but it was casual anyway so I get both. They ring up, and both are Juniors.
I also made a stop at Mark's looking for a pair of pants and maybe a blouse. Apparently now I am an extra small at Mark's. The world has gone mad.

Shit, I'm not a "skinny" person by any definition (generally wore a size 4 or 6 before the Fattening) and I'm starting to have trouble finding jeans. I thought since I've been hitting the weights (used to be purely a runner) for a couple months this might improve things, but my legs have actually gotten slimmer and still no ass. I apparently suck at bulking. I half heartedly looked at Walmart the other day and the plus size section was bigger than the human section. Oddly enough I've found the most tights and leggings that fit me at the Dollar Store. Probably because it's all from China.
Good luck with your tri training! I'm thinking of putting my dumb ass through a marathon for the first time this year because I hate both myself and gainz.

At this point, buying from Urban Outfitters and Uniqulo is my main option with all the vanity sizing. You're right though, it's much worse in the U.S.

Oh more Canadians eh. Yeah we are there now, even for men's clothes. As a kid I was a medium, now I'm a small or extra small (tested by digging up old shirts). I can also fit into 28 "inch" slacks, since they are actually 30.

I'm a guy, but I have a similar problem with a 50" chest. In crazy world this only makes me a large, I've even fit into a few mediums, and of course the shirts are all cut to either go straight down or to slightly bell out at the waist, so I either have to tuck them into my pants or have a lot of loose cloth flapping around my waist. It's just, wtf, I should be about the biggest size most places carry and I'm maybe the median.

I feel ya. Some day when I make Big Kid Money I want to get at least a couple dress shirts tailored. Trying to tuck in that big bunch of bottom fabric into pants sucks.
