Eh, to me it's a time when I get to see my family because we are all spread out. I feel that an all-day food fest with decadent treats is just that, a once-a-year, maybe twice-a-year if you do thanksgiving, time to indulge with your closest people. Even if you go overboard completely just once a year, it's not going to make you fat. It's in perfect moderation to have a ginormous feast one or two times a year.

For normal humans who eat ~2000 calories a day, even if you ate twice as much food as you normally would for 4 days, you'd only gain a little over 2 pounds with 8000 excess calories. Hammies who eat ~4000 a day and are already gaining weight with that then double down for 2 weeks because "teehee it's the holidays" and pack on 56000 calories for 16 pounds.

I think it's also totally cool to not celebrate a very big holiday with binging if that's not your thing. Just trying to offer a perspective as to why humans could even binge.
