Basically these are idiots that go on sub 1000 calorie a day diets for a week, are amazed at water weight loss and then go back to eating 4000+ calories a day and blame starvation mode for the weight gain.

It's retarded, I've seen it multiple times. If you don't make permanent changes to your lifestyle you're not doing it right.

Yup, I hate people who diet. Permanent weight loss is not a fucking diet, it's a lifestyle change. You are not dieting to cut weight to make weight for an MMA fight or some shit, you are changing habits in order to be normal sized. If your ideal calorie intake is 1800 calories a day to maintain, that's what it will be forever. You don't drop to that until the weight is lost and go back to eating like shit, that's not how it works.

Also, these idiots don't understand that the weight comes on faster initially when you go back to eating like shit because the calories required to maintain a 140lb body are less than that of a 300lb body, so there's initially a HUGE surplus that gets stored as fat until they get fat again.

That's a gross oversimplification of what goes on when you restrict calories. Introducing an energy deficit by increasing exercise or decreasing food signal your body to adapt metabolically. This includes:

  • Increased mitochondrial efficiency
  • Decreased metabolic rate
  • Increases in hormones that induce catabolism and hunger.

These conspire to create weight loss plateaus, lower test levels, and difficulty in maintaining lean mass. Even after you halt restriction, the adaptations hang around and set you up for body fat overshooting. Weight gained during the presence of said adaptations can also trigger the growth of new adipocytes.

That said, metabolic adaptation does not make weight loss impossible or cause weight gain in a deficit. But, if you fail to keep in mind the need to reverse diet your way back into a less efficient metabolic rate, it's easy to hit your goal and get fatter than you were before.

When normal eating resumes, weight gain is swift...

No. What you meant was not "when normal eating resumes", it was "when you start eating like the disgusting swine you are again".

I'm so bothered by how many dietitians and nutritionists buy into this and other fatlogic things. Then again, I suppose these people would be out of a job if they actually did their job successfully in the first place...

I know, this was in one of the UK's most popular women's magazines.

When you read it carefully you can see it is talking about actual starvation mode, but these butterhuffers will just read the title and claim the two hours between breakfast and elevenses is starvashun...

So, the people who actually have a ED like bulimia are wafer thin/severely underweight because __________ . What does fatlogic answer to this?

Like The shit they eat contains vitamins and minerals. Also you dont need to eat that much food to get The vitamins you need. IF you eat normal food you get plenty, almost to much.

This, assuming you eat a balanced spread of veggies, fruits and proteins you should get everything you need nutrition wise.
