I believe in the power of prayer. BUT I also believe that God wants us to take action as well. Prayer is just one part of making a difference, and means nothing if you don't act on your good intentions if you're able to.
If it's in your control, you don't stop at prayer. You also go out and help whenever you can. Action is better than intention. But if action isn't within your power, then all you can do is pray, if you believe in the power of it.
For me, it's better than feeling like I'm doing nothing when a situation or outcome is completely out of my hands (or I'm doing all I can and feel even that isn't enough).
