Prayer harms nobody. And telling someone they're in your thoughts and prayers isn't insulting. IMO, it's another way of expressing how that person is on your mind and that you genuinely hope things improve. For those who believe in the power of prayer, hearing that someone is praying for you is an encouragement.

Obesity, on the other hand, affects all of us. An obese person is harming themselves, draining society of its resources, takes far more space than necessary, and can have a profound effect on the loved ones and caregivers forced to watch them eat themselves to disease and death.

You choose to be fat, just like you choose to offer kind words and prayers. Difference is, your choice to pray harms nobody, but your decision to become fat hurts us all.

Fatshaming, therefore, is completely acceptable. Prayer shaming is bullying.

Prayer harms everybody. What the fuck are you talking about? Dipshits who believe in prayer are much less inclined to feel inspired to take any direct action in the world, as some invisible fucking man in the sky will magically fix everything. Prayer trivializes the role of direct human intervention by ceding power and authority to divine intervention. But, experience tells us that prayer never fucking works and that only through taking full responsibility of our actions is anything meaningful ever accomplished. Prayer fosters passivity.

I believe in the power of prayer. BUT I also believe that God wants us to take action as well. Prayer is just one part of making a difference, and means nothing if you don't act on your good intentions if you're able to.

If it's in your control, you don't stop at prayer. You also go out and help whenever you can. Action is better than intention. But if action isn't within your power, then all you can do is pray, if you believe in the power of it.

For me, it's better than feeling like I'm doing nothing when a situation or outcome is completely out of my hands (or I'm doing all I can and feel even that isn't enough).

I'm pretty sure we shame fat constantly.
