That's really fucked up. I'm glad my kids don't have to face that kind of reality. It's one thing to be in poverty and not have enough (almost impossible in the US), it's another to intentionally withhold food from your hungry kids. It makes me sad that this was your experience.

Wired, I'm so sorry it was like that for you. I absolutely cannot relate, coming from a family of four, including my parents. We weren't wealthy by any standards, but it was never close to this.

If I may ask, where did you grow up? This story sounds so third worldly to me.

I'm not who you replied to, but this story is basically verbatim the story of at least two friends I have here in America. Both had either crazy or drug addicted parents, who couldn't manage money/food or were trading foodstamps for drugs.

It's a lot more common than you might think.
