Unloaded is exactly how you store firearms. Please don't ever own one.

Why would you store them unloaded ( I'm real ignorant when it comes to them) what if you need to protect yourself? I can understand if they're in your car, but what if it's stored at your house?

Storing firearms unloaded helps to prevent accidental firings. It's recommended to keep them locked in safes and unloaded even in one's home to prevent unauthorized use. The chances of actually having to use a firearm in self-defense is quite low, so keeping them loaded if you're not actively carrying is moronic.

Not for self defense when you have a criminal breaking in or threatening your life. You have seconds to protect your life. You don't have time to load it.

If they would have been robbed it wouldn't have helped anyway since it was left in the car, which is the situation we were talking about.
