Oh god. When I started getting help for my eating disorder, I had one fat fuck psychologist who claimed she used to have one. Realllllly hard to take recovery advice from a land whale. "Keep recovering! I did and look at me now!" I wouldn't eat for the rest of the day.

"Keep recovering! I did and look at me now!"

"How to trigger an ED, 101."

It was awful. I'd go home and cry. I was terrified of not recovering but terrified of looking like her. Fat asses shouldn't try to help ED patients recover.

To be fair, I know a psychiatrist specializing in EDs who is extremely petite and weighs like 95 lbs (she's around 5'1"). If you look at her ratings online, half the statements are rants about how she's "too thin' to work in this field of psychiatry. Some people are just never happy.

If she really did have one, she would know that being an fat and saying that would be triggering. (Triggering in the legit sense, like in your case. Not Tubblr "triggering.")

I've gone through half a dozen therapists and while I can't say I particularly liked any of them I absolutely loathed the fat ones. They always tried to make the conversation about themselves and their problems instead of trying to help, they had no clue what basic manners and politeness were, and they either refused to acknowledge or made jokes about my eating disorder. Fat psychologists are fucking awful.

Samesies. I've had more than my fair share of therapists, starting in 2nd grade. Have come across ~2 that were worth a single hour's pay. I've experienced the same thing where they are completely focused on themselves, incredibly biased, and often incredibly naive considering they're supposed to be helping people who've been through all varieties of trauma. The naivete has been most striking. Most just like to hone in on the "glamorous" trauma I've been through instead of the shit I'm currently dealing with. It is absolutely devastating to realize that they're more interested in hearing the super crazy stories than helping you. Fuck psychologists (sorry OP, but not sorry).

Oh, to be so young and innocent.

A very large portion of the people in Psychology are not there to help other people. They are there trying to figure out why they are so fucked up. Many of the others are only there because they washed out of a STEM program and thought psychology would be an easy second choice.

You are one of the good ones. Those others are not like you.

Ah just typed up something similar before I read this lmao, this is indeed very true, a quite big portion of people who end up in mental healthcare are people who come from healthcare themselves

I reckon there's a reason they get into psych. I did more or less did physio because I had a number of injuries that weren't going away. Fat physios, fuck fat physios. They're always shit.

You should check out this guy: https://sanford.duke.edu/people/faculty/brownell-kelly-d

Believe it or not, he's a world-renowned "obesity expert." I think he's a fucking quack.

(Psychologist here)

He's an expert because he's big enough to have 4 times the experience of anyone else under his belt. If, ya know, they moved the fat first.

They don't

that's exactly it right there, how can any medical professional that is obese properly take care of any patient? They can't.

I know what you mean. At my last annual wellness visit, the MA was almost completely round. She took my blood pressure and stared at the numbers confused before writing it down. Who'd have though a clean bill of health and proper BP would be uncommon. All they have to go off of is their own health and that of their "normal" patients, and they CLEARLY can't be the unhealthy ones if they work in medicine, right?

If you needed complex, invasive surgery and had to choose between a thin physician with unremarkable outcomes and a ham planet with outcomes that were significantly better, i.e. with the ham as your surgeon, your risk of death and/or complications was much lower, which would you choose?

The one who's body is more likely not going to give out while I'm under the knife.

Or a different hospital.
