why does someone who has a job and rich parents have a roommate?! that's not me poking holes in your story, i just can't imagine why. the second i started making enough to afford to live in a shoebox without a roommate i never looked back.

I've never considered his view before. To be honest, I have no clue why he does. He seems very focused on an overall sum of money and that may be the reason. You are correct, he has no reason for this arrangement. Now I'm curious.

I'm 31 and I just moved in with a roommate because living alone was not good for me, and making it very easy to hide my alcoholism. I was getting really weird, living like a complete slob, my mood was shit all the time, and then when my liver started failing I had a bit of a breakdown, and decided that if I wanted to turn my life back around I had to have a roommate. The extra $400 a month is nice (plus the extra $750 I'm not spending on alcohol) but having a roommate in my 30s does feel like a step back in life.

We are social creatures and its not always healthy to isolate oneself. Of course, people are different, but personally, I would hate to live alone. Don't consider it a step back, especially if it has had a positive impact on your life.

When I was just younger than you I ended up moving in with my then girlfriend for pretty much the same reason. I didn't have a sleep schedule to speak of (nap after work, bed sometime in the middle of the night, waking up at 6am is the only constant). I didn't clean like I should. My place was a wreck unless I was expecting her over.

It was a shitty reason to move that dead end relationship forward, but it was the right move for my well being.

Delusions of wealth quickly unravel with basic questions like this.
