"It is a myth that obesity is the "fault" of the patient. There is a large degree of genetic inheritance, with 50-70% of the difference in weight of individuals due to their genes. The world health organisation has said that "in contrast to the widely held perception among the public and parts of the scientific and medical communities, it is clear that obesity is not simply a result of overindulgence in highly palatable foods, or lack of physical exercise". The discrimination larger people experience is due to the mis-placed belief that it is their fault and that they merely lack willpower. If you have genes that tend to put on weight and live in a society where high fat food is readily available, then you are more likely to put on weight. It doesn't mean these people can't lose weight, but it is certainly more difficult for some people than others."

I must be a retard because I fail to see the part where fatties have calorie generating genes. Those sure would've helped the people stuck in concentration camps or the general public of North Korea.

Came here to comment on this gem. "Dr. E. Oates" must have gotten his MD at HAES university.

Maybe Dr. E. Oates and Dr D. Skwatz should do a collaboration project.

Did he get his tools along from the same place as Wile E. Coyote? Because I think they might be broken.

They need more than just self-control. Food is an addiction to them. They need a lot more than mere willpower. Like how many smokers try and fail to stop smoking, many fatties try and fail to stop eating. Most "fat acceptance" fatties have already tried and failed many times to lose weight. They have a mental illness, as far as I'm concerned. They need serious help, whether it's mental treatment or euthanasia.

There is a very nuanced argument (which I'm writing about) that is being missed and that is the conceptual idea of free will. We, as humans, tend to assume we have the choice in our decisions and that is significant. Reducing all knowledge to simple statements: I agree that some people may not feel full as easily I do; I agree that some bodies may be more adept at storing biochemical energy - it is evolutionary advantageous, but it falls to the key point (which some disagree with) - we have the ability to make decisions.

A lot of the arguments of fats aren't ridiculous taken in a very, very nuanced aspect of biochemical process, but of course they are too dumb to understand this and parrot what the media says ("X is good for weight loss!" - who cares if the benefit is 0.001%). We have the understanding to know our flaws, our evolutionary flaws - the things that make us human for better or worse. If you accept free will (which I assume the majority of this subverse do), then you must bear the burden that you are responsible for not adapting to your biological state.

We crave sex, but don't spend every minute fucking. We crave food, but don't spend every minute eating. To have the knowledge of your flaws and refuse to correct them is ignorant laziness. This is why I hate fats as the entire argument breaks down to this one facet - you have free will to overcome your adversity, regardless of the burden. Your genetic lottery my be shitty, but the final decision is made by you - the individual. By pushing blame off yourself you simply do not understand what you are or who you are, and that shows in your personality, which is how we judge you so easily. You always have the opportunity and you waste it - and we hate you for it.

Wat? 5 minutes of googling gave the this straight from the WHO's website. It's Fact #5 on Obesity.

For an individual, obesity is usually the result of an imbalance between calories consumed and calories expended An increased consumption of highly calorific foods, without an equal increase in physical activity, leads to an unhealthy increase in weight. Decreased levels of physical activity will also result in an energy imbalance and lead to weight gain

I've finally found it. A scenario where being an obeast would be an objective advantage.

Fallout. The Slaton Sisters and Simply Sara would rule the world of Fallout through their built in, biological radiation shield. The one Slaton sister even has a forehead FUPA to protect its adipose brain.

Those are xrays though, gamma rays ( as would be released in an atomic bomb would have greater penetration )

Other than surviving the radiation (mutations aside), I can't see any other advantage they'd have...if surviving an apocalypse is an advantage.

Reality (and medical science) turns out to be the best shitlord again.

So now that the fats have made our screening technology ineffective, what options do the scientists have left? As for replacing x-rays or ultrasound. Should we go up to gamma radiation for that extra energy? Or down to microwaves for that longer wavelength which should penetrate their bulk more readily. Resolution would be lower, but since the use would be limited to enormous fatties, maybe the faults within them are enormous as well. So lower resolution would suffice?

Seriously. When making medical equipment you don't think, hey, I should make this hold something the size of a horse. When NORMAL humans are around 150 lbs. But then, here comes a person the size of large farm animal and the manufacturers are like WTF?!

Seriously. Anyone who CANNOT fit into a standard size MRI, not the fat ones, the standard, need to get all funding and aid cut until they lose weight.

“The Americans with Disabilities Act says that they should have the proper equipment to handle me, the same as they do for anyone else,” he says indignantly. “I’m entitled to that. I’ll probably have to sue to get the care I really need.”

This fills me with so much anger.

I've actually been to this doctor, he used to be part of a primary care practice I went to. He was definitely a no-bullshit kind of doctor. What's funny is the two receptionists in the office were huge, and he was always so rude to them that you could tell they hated him.

The amount of calories you have to ingest to get to 600lbs and maintain that weight is insanely high. I've seen enough episodes of supersize vs superskinny to know these people could lose weight eating 2000 calories a day. There is NO excuse for being this fucking gross. Sure, there's a genetic component that predisposes you to abuse food like a drug - which is why you should be proactive in your health to ensure you don't! Jesus, you're the one stuffing donuts down your throat, take some responsibility instead of whining that hospitals don't have equipment appropriate for someone the size of a baby whale.

We should send morbidly obese people to fucking fat farms.

[–] etherandhoney 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

I agree.

I have watched pretty much all of the episodes of My 600 lb Life and every time the admit the 800 lb fucktonne obeast into the hospital to try to get their weight under control... MIRACULOUSLY they are able to lose weight (such as 30-50 lbs in a month or so) on the hospital diet. Then, they send the fatty home and surprise, surprise! the weight loss is stalled out. It's always because the retarded fat fuck and their equally stupid fat family of enablers are feeding them from the trough and they are going through the drive through to their heart's content.

I wish there was a new version of Shitlord's My 600 LB life where the obeast dies at the end. :) :) :) That would make me so happy.
