Where I work there is a woman who seems to engage me in an avuncular fashion. I think she sees me as the Drunk Uncle she never had. I had known her before this job when I had bailed her out of jail about ten years ago. Today she is married with two kids and never bothered to lose the baby weight. She was quite the QT back when she was my client, but had let herself go in the intervening years.
About three months ago, I started noticing subtle things. She would some times walk by me while I'm eating lunch and see what I am eating. "damn, that looks good". Then she would ask me how I prepared my lunch. Then I noticed she would make fat jokes. Not the "teehee" kinda jokes we are used from fatasses. They were self deprecating, yet more along the lines of fat shaming kinda jokes we would make. After a while I noticed that her desk was no longer littered with chip bags and soda cans.
About a month ago, she came to me and asked when was the next time I was going to the Chinese buffet. I will sometimes go there a couple times a month because they have good baked salmon and I like the Mongolian grilled vegetables. She said she wanted to go with me next time so she could see what I get and try it.
At the buffet we had a nice conversation about her growing disgust with junk food and how after about a month without sugar, she no longer craves it like she did. It was during this conversation that I REALLY noticed something. No puffiness around the eyes. Less cheek volume and only one and a half chins. That was when I brought up that I had noticed she had lost weight. She seemed proud but not smug when she told me she's lost 19 pounds since mid January. (She wasn't an Obeast, it would be in abou 5-10 years if she didn't do something)
I shared with her my philosophy on healthy eating and she seemed to be taking mental notes. The last couple of times I have gone to the Chinese buffet, she has come with me, and I have been impressed with her choices and portions. Damn, it is such a breath of fresh air to see someone actually take some fucking responsibility for the decisions they make. I think she may have actually made some tangible life altering changes and they are paying off with real tangible results. It is great to see when someone doesn't Talk the Talk, and instead, gets off their ass and Walks the Walk.
Well, White pill over. We now return you to your usual submissions of cottage cheese thighs and fupa slings.

A lot of black pills in the comments for a white pill post. As long as you're not taking this too seriously, and you're not, I bet it is refreshing to actually have someone move towards sanity for once. I have never been a fan of conversation, but these days it's at the point where I dread what kind of unhinged insanity is going to be casually expressed by some NPC. I would love to her that someone has come to a rational conclusion for once.

Yeah. I don't blame the people throwing black pills in here. There's some legit reasons for it. But yeah. I'm not taking it seriously at all. She's a good kid who is doing more action than talk in trying to improve herself. It is such a rarity to see (and let's be honest, this could be very short lived), that it is a good feeling to witness. Even if it does then turn out to be a temporary thing and she has a cake relapse, it's still now sweat off my brow. It's no lose for me.

I'm seeing a lot of jumping to conclusions. I'm not seeing anyone deny the possibility that she could have other intentions, but coworkers also just go to lunch and chat sometimes.

absolutely naive... she could have just asked him what he eats every day... doesn't have to follow him to a restaurant to see it with her own eyes...
give it 2 weeks before the ulterior motive comes to light

Twenty says she eventually tries to get you to have a drink with her and she makes a move on you if you do.

I don't know about that. I can see why ya might think that, but I never got that kinda vibe off of her. She will be let down gently if it happens.

EXPECT DISAPPOINTMENT. The fat I counselled swung so wildly back to fat logic it is mind boggling. They will eventually develop a contingency plan for "just in case" they get to X weight again. They will inevitably get to that weight again. I'm now convinced these are mentally broken people who, at the core of their existence, do not believe in a positive outcome for themselves in the future. They live for the feelings of consumption.
[–] Rockfish1000 [S] 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
Yeah. It is almost like they reach their "goal weight" and then don't know what to do with themselves. If she balloons up again, oh well. Her problem not mine. I won't be disappointed. I know the district probability is very real.

Dear diary,
Today the skinny bitch at work tried talking to me again. Doesn't she know her body is triggering to me? I hope she dies of anorexia.

never date a fat, single mother, or drug addict... you're knowingly doing 2 of 3

There’s really not much fat hate here tbh

i have been trying to slowly convince my obese boss to start eating better in a similar way for a while. only eating healthy leftovers, talking about how inexpensive and easy chicken + roasted veg + rice is for dinner & lunch, driving home how much enjoyment i get from going to the gym for 4 hours a week and just lifting weights. he's got the "yeah but it's always been easy for you and staying healthy takes time" attitude so i try to drop little nuggets about how easy and inexpensive living clean really is into daily conversation. his main problem is borderline alcoholism, though, and until you stop getting shitcanned and ordering papa john's every night, not much is going to help.

That's cool. Maybe he'll come around. Some times people just need a real life example to emulate.
[–] user654654 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
i think it's important for people to see that no, it's not magic, but no, it's not that difficult, either. ignore the blackpills; everywhere i've worked i've more or less tried to subtly change the fatties' habits with about a 40 % success rate. honestly worth it.
[–] LostWhiteSoul 1 point 1 point 2 points (+2|-1) ago
That's encouraging, let's hope it rubs off on some of her cohorts. I've always thought that being a heffalump is a non sustaining lifestyle. They're going to implode eventually, without even trying. When you can't even get up to walk to the fridge then you're in trouble.
