That's not necessarily true. Imagine walking around with a 300 pound weight all day. Or for a few trips equal to the average distance from bed to fridge. You would gain quite a bit of muscle mass.

I don't remember what the study was, but according to it, while their total muscle mass is indeed bigger, it's proportionately much lower than that of a healthy person, when compared to their absolute weight.

You had to go all the way to a 74 year old to prove a point.
An age where, unless you are an athlete, most of your muscle mass is depleted.
You may want to take notice that your example compares a triathlete to a sedentary person.
Sedentary doesn't mean fat.
