We ran mock fitness tests for about a dozen of our "people". They all have their PT test next month. They all failed, except one dude. One guy, one. The rest of them ran their mile and a half in 14-18 minutes. Most of them averaged like 32 pushups in one minute. They are all in the 20-23 age range as well. It was depressing. Like really depressing.

I want to know how good my push-up ability is. Can you recommend any good websites? I've been using these. Do you agree with these standards? What number would put a 35-year-old male in the top 90% for his age group?

My standards for myself would be higher if it was my job, of course - like military or firefighting. If you need some comic relief after that, take a look at the average cop. The Thin Blue Line?

There are one or two web pages out there with percentiles charts but I can never tell if they are including or excluding the 30% who are obese. Most of them also don't break it down by age group. That's why that wikipedia page above is the best one I know of.

If you can bang out at least 50 in a minute without stopping, you're doing good. Get on the internet and look for close grip push-ups, diamond push-ups, open grip push-ups. Hit's the shoulders, chest and tris differently, then normal push-ups are easy. Also, get an ab roller. Having a strong, rigid core makes push-ups easier.

That's just sad.
