So, due to work I had to miss my family's yearly vacation to the beach. I didn't really mind, we've been to the same spot for several years now and I was frankly just physically and emotionally exhausted from work. I feel much better after a weekend of relaxing and catching up on chores.
I've just gotten off the phone with my family, asking them how the vacation went. Now, when I go on vacation I want to maybe hike in beautiful national parks, shop in cute unique stores, go on thrill rides or amusement parks, go to museums, and yes sample the local specialty dishes.
My family's report went as follows:
- There was an ice cream shop: they went 3 times
- There was an Irish pub: they ordered fried chicken tenders
- There were several all-you-can-eat buffets: "you missed that, I know you like those" (I do not go to buffets. Ever. Not worth the money for crap food)
- Went to Golden Corral for breakfast: because 1 buffet per trip isn't enough
- There was a Japanese steakhouse: none of them like sushi and a few insisted on no vegetables with their food
- They had pizza
- They bought a bunch of snack cakes to munch on and had to bring a bunch of it back with them (because they "just don't eat that stuff" and only had one or two of each kind per person throughout the week and a few donuts and some fresh-baked cookies from pre-made dough. But they don't eat that kind of stuff, really)
- They came home and ate McDonalds
All of this was reported first as the highlights of the trip, the really fun stuff. They even reported almost exactly what they ate each time. It was only after asking a few more questions that I found out what else they did. Which basically amounted to laying out on the beach and discovering that they're too out-of-shape to do anything more physically demanding than that.
I think I dodged a bullet here.
tldr: Fats use vacation as an excuse to binge. Because food is the central fun part of every event, apparently.

Why even go on vacation? You can eat all that garbage at home and save a bunch of money. Or you can eat like a human and save even MORE money. Plus when you go on vacations you can see the stuff that actually made it a good spot to go in the first place!
