And now there's evidence suggestive of (it's not yet 100% proven, to my knowledge) that a diet heavy in processed food can make a person more vulnerable to developing alzheimer's , expecially if there's already a genetic/familial propensity.

A shitty diet can fuck with hormonal levels, which may help explain why women eating western diets seem to be going into menopause at earlier ages than previous generations (I said MAY ; it's also possible that medical science is just better at detecting these hormonal changes earlier and earlier, plus I can remember a time when the concept of perimenopause did not exist).

If it's true that estrogen helps protect women against alzheimer's (among other things) then anything that affects hormonal levels or causes early menopause could be a MAJOR problem, as that is by definition losing estrogen . And while messed up estrogen levels take away a woman's protection from alzheimer's , men are not safe either : A shitty diet heavy in processed and ultra processed food messes with their hormones too, and while women are more likely to come down with alzheimers (or at least are so diagnosed) men are certainly NOT exempt. Try to imagine a world in which everyone's fat, and the few who live to 50-60 have already developed alzheimer's disease.

So, basically, we're overworked, overtaxed, and underpaid so we have less and less time to actually cook , never mind gardening (AND never mind exercising) ; just look how many people have a FT and a PT job, or 3-4 PT jobs. So we find it harder and harder to get by without relying on shitty processed and ultra processed convenience "food products" ,even while knowing that there's evidence of it being pretty much literally poison. Did I miss anything-???

ETA : And oh, yeah, the comments posted by FA/HAES horseshit artists on tumblr, instaham, youtube, etc, are certainly suggestive of low intellectual capacity as well as an utter lack of basic common sense. They don't seem to be terribly well educated, either.

Poor diets lead to deficiencies in magnesium and potassium, both help regulate the thyroid and hormones. If your body isn't getting what it needs, the ovaries/testicles cannot aid in hormone production, so the adrenals take over. Since the body is already stressed, the adrenals are producing excess or too little cortisol, screwing up the other hormone levels. When women go through menopause, the adrenals take over estrogen/progesterone regulation for the ovaries, hence the change in hormone levels and accompanying symptoms.

The problems with adrenals and cortisol may explain why so many fat womyn wind up with male pattern fatness : The breasts and buttocks stay relatively small while the gut gets huge ; the classic "beer belly" seen even in non drinker obese men.

Here's an interesting story from the 'popular' science magazine Discover, on the horrors of ultra processed foods. I believe the original study was published in the scientific journal, the New England Journal of Duh:

Processed Foods, Regardless Of Nutrition, Still Cause Weight Gain
