You're preaching to the choir on this one. Every sense is heightened and it's exhilarating. Nothing, absolutely nothing, holds a candle to experiencing, as opposed to viewing, a race.
Your words, passion, comes right through the screen. And it makes it that much sadder that your race has been cancelled.

I grew up at the track, basically! My dad used to run quarter miles in his '67 Mustang Fastback (he'd done a lot of work on it, of course; it was NOT street legal). We'd all hang out in the pit and then go to the stands to watch; he had a room full of trophies. There's just nothing like that feeling and sound and smell--although last time I was at a track I realized it's different now; the burning clutch smell isn't really there anymore.

The smells hit dopamine receptors. And are addictive. I'm jonesing for the smell right now.
