Over and over a patient presents with diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, osteoarthritis on weight bearing joints and sleep apnea. On meds for all of them.
They are always always obese. I tell them that they could likely come off ALL of their meds if they would lose weight. I tell them that it’s in their power to reverse this, that eventually it won’t, eventually the diseases will progress to the point that the accumulated damage will not be reversible...
...a month later they’re back, another 2 lbs heavier with a mouth full of excuses.

Only 2 pounds in a month? Did you mean 20?

Yeah, only a 2 lb gain would be an achievement for them. Should be 2 lbs a week. That would be a 7,000 kc above maintenance (which at their sizes is already high).
