I don't understand. Shouldn't it be more expensive? There is more material. Or is it just that the majority of Americans are fat so to offset lower sales of small dresses they must be more expensive to be viable? If that is the truth, WTF?

Fat privilege: cheaper clothes because they're made in bulk for bulk sizes.

It's most likely because they produce far more circus-tent-size dresses than human-size ones. Thus, they can order more at a time for larger discounts, and the factory workers will be more experienced making bigger dresses, etc. The whole supply chain is geared better for making bigger dresses because they move more of them.
