I'm sorry, but I have to ask. Is every 2018 person depressed? Why, though? Why is it that when the world is at its best point ever in terms of providing for human necesities and comfort, everyone is "depressed"? Most persons, of most countries, have a pretty much guaranteed decent life from the moment they are born, thanks to the way the world is today. So why is it that every person I see on the Internet is so depressed? And I don't mean to be disrespectful, or to imply that mental health is something to joke about, but I seriously don't understand why every-fucking-one is depressed.

Sounds like you might be leaning towards "material goods are what matters." Being able to get necessities matters, but comforts aren't necessarily going to lead to a happy life. Also, what do you mean by a "decent life?" Looking at how politicians in most of the west are working towards replacing the population of the people they are suppose to represent I don't see how anyone is guaranteed a decent life in a way that matters in the coming decades.

I guess there might be some cool new gadgets or something to look forward to.

Not offended at all, this bugs me as well. I’m 35 and was diagnosed at 19 and I’ve desperately tried over the years to find ways to get better but I truly do have clinical depression and I see so many people say they have it but they just self diagnosed themselves. And it makes it hard for me to be taken seriously as truly mentally ill. I do think some people are just faking it.

Lack on human affection, talking through screens, avoiding looking into anyone's eyes, growing up being told not to feel anything, lack of physical activity. There's a host of real reasons for depression.

That being said, the majority of people aren't clinically depressed, they're just unhappy at times and thus "I'm depressed" as in not dealing with what human feelings they're experiencing at the time. I have a whole lecture on why everyone claims to have some type of mental illness, but it's too much for this type of forum. The gist is we don't know how to feel.

It's because of the massive popularity of social media. Social media is truly a disease. You see all these people doing well and living lavish lifestyles, building businesses, doing big things and you compare yourself to them and you feel inadequate. That is why most people are depressed.

Delete social media and you live a happier life. I truly believe that. Delete that shit. All the instant gratification and mental masturbation shit has to go. Delete Snapchat, facebook, Twitter and Instagram and I guarantee you'll be happier. The only thing I use is Facebook and that's for business. I don't look at what my friends on there are up to because I don't care, and even if I did, how does their life affect me positively in any way? It's just a net negative.
