Sure BMI doesnt accurately portray Dwayne johnson, but it will correctly get 99,9% of everybody else right. To state "obesity rates might not be as bad as portrayed" on that claim is ridiculous

They love to ignore that it's actually worse when accounting for body fat percentage. BMI is very forgiving.

After taking some courses on nutrition and other health sciences, one key factor that links obesity and health issues is central adiposity, aka the abdominal fat, aka the bad kind when in huge quantities. Most fat logicians will go out of their way to deligitimize BMI by finding the most strawman excuses while completely ignoring the consequences of excessive visceral fat.
