So I was scrolling through facebook, and came upon a picture of the daughters of a woman I know (friend of my best friend, semi friend to me). This friend-of-friend and her husband are both obese (like, had to make everyone get up and switch places at a dinner cuz their stomachs couldn’t fit in the booth obese), and their two daughters are quickly following in their footsteps, one in particular. The older daughter is 12 or 13 and has to be well over 200lbs. Supposedly she’s been to the doctor for all kinds of weird GI issues, and they claim they eat well and only that one kid gains weight so it must be a weird fluke of her body (nope).
Well after looking at that I said “Man they really need to get her weight under control. She’s going to have diabetes before she hits 15.” And my friend was like “they’re trying! Her body is weird!’ And I said “No, she eats too much.”
“But they cook healthy food!’
“They clearly do not. They all need to lose weight.”
“Also a big part of her issue is puberty. You know how in middle school all the girls are chubby cuz their hormones haven’t settled yet?”
“Nope. That’s not a thing.”
And it went in circles like that. We ended up agreeing to disagree, but I’m cranky about it because I always assumed she low-key hated on this family for abusing their child like I did. But instead she gave me every excuse in the book!
I’ve been a broken record lately telling people “all weight changes relate back to calories. ALL it is is calories in vs. calories out. Unique factors might make it harder for someone to reduce their caloric intake, but at the end of the day calories are all it is.” And we’ve had that conversation before but apparently she was just bullshitting me and doesn’t actually believe it!
HOW DO YOU GET PEOPLE TO LISTEN TO FUCKING LOGIC???

Seems like you don't know that CICO never claimed anything other than that you gain weight when eating more calories than you expend and lose with the opposite. It never said anything about health, let alone muscle building. So what you're stating is actually proving CICO once again.

Not completely writing off CICO but my point is that the quality of calories does absolutely matter. When I say lean/toning I mean lowering body fat to the lower percentages not even muscle building. It's the idea that you can get a six pack by sheer dieting and not working out. If I ate 1000 calories a day that consisted of pure soy and sugar I would definitely see a difference than if I ate a 1000 calories a day of meat and saturated fat.
