I'm always surprised at how terrible people are at going for long periods without food. Even non-fats sometimes. They act like they're on the verge of collapse if they're deprived of food for more than about five hours, at which point I'm subjected to exclamations about how STAAAARVING they are at five minute intervals until we can go get food, or god forbid they have to "skip a meal" which usually just means have to delay usual mealtime by more than one hour.

To be honest - I'm one of those who's starving after five hours without food. I go to the gym five times a week, have no car and do everything based on walking and public transport. I'm getting ravenous after a few hours, but that has a reason other than "thut donut in my head is sedushing me again".

Any normal healthy person in good shape uses mainly glycogen to power their body. If you run out you get hungry/shaky for a while while your body switches over to ketosis and has low/limited available energy.
