I have a legitimate disability that requires the use of a wheelchair. What the government classifies as a disability is astounding. This list includes, but is not necessarily limited to the following conditions: Blindness: No problem with this Deafness: No problem with this Cancer: To me, it depends on the cancer... If you smoked cigarettes, etc. why do you get rewarded? Diabetes: If you abused your body to obtain diabetes, you can fix it. Why be rewarded? Epilepsy: No problem with this Autism: To me this is just a polite synonym for "mentally retarded", and as long as you can function normally in polite society, this is no problem. Cerebral palsy: This is a serious and permanent impairment of the ability to walk. No problem with this. HIV/AIDS: Since the only way to acquire this disease is through dangerous life choices, why be rewarded? Schizophrenia: No problem with this, but I doubt very seriously that people with severe mental health disorders are actively working anyway. Muscular dystrophy: No problem with this Bipolar disorder: as long as this is actually diagnosed by a competent medical doctor, I have no issue with this, but with all the self-diagnosis going on, who really knows. Major depression: as long as this is actually diagnosed by a competent medical doctor, I have no issue with this, but with all the self-diagnosis going on, who really knows. Multiple sclerosis (MS): No problem with this Missing limbs or partially missing limbs: No problem with this Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as long as this is actually diagnosed by a competent medical doctor, I have no issue with this, but with all the self-diagnosis going on, who really knows. Obsessive compulsive disorder: I can't really speak to this one, so it gets a pass, I guess. Impairments requiring the use of a wheelchair: This category is overly broad, as many of the previous categories fit into it but I'll just put this out there regarding obesity: If you eat yourself into needing a mobility device, this should be a clue that this is NOT OK OR NORMAL. Why should I have to pay for your gluttony? Intellectual disability (previously called mental retardation): No problem with this.

Also, I have to point out that obtaining disability for someone who has an actual disability is no walk in the park, and it amazes me how many of these lardbarges actually get it along with a ton of other social supports (Medicaid, SNAP/Food Stamps/Cash Handouts/Charity) that allow them to remain as they are.

If you actually receive disability, a number of "restrictions" are places on your life circumstances:

Want to obtain full-time employment? You better be careful that you don't earn too much, because the social supports that you get from the state can be removed from you if you "make too much money". If you need full-time caregiving for the activities of daily living, the stipend that you had to prove legally that you qualify for can be instantly removed if you earn too much money.

Want to get married, or have a live-in partner? You better give up this idea, because your income will be combined, and then you are in the "make too much money" category.

There are many similar examples I can think of, but this is enough for now.

I made very similar statements on Feddit recently and was accused of "fostering oppression" (whatever that is) and take it as a badge of honor.
