I might be mistaken here, but wouldn't the first assumption always be that when someone gets sick they, I don't know, LOSE WEIGHT?!
Why do they assume getting sick will make you gain weight?? Why do they assume she will for a fact get fat in the first place?

Depends. Hypothyroidism, Cushing’s disease, PCOS, long term steroids will likely cause weight gain. I’m not talking ham proportions here, but some degree of weight gain is expected. Then, of course, there’s heart and kidney stuff that’ll make you retain water and gain water weight. But the 100lb overweight generally healthy monstrosities that stuff faces with twinkies? No excuses here.

Can't all of those be avoided by counting calories aka watching what you eat? My body is kinda fucked up, mainly by medications that by all mean dictate I should be enormously fat now like almost everyone else who takes them, but in reality they just change the fat distribution and make you ridiculously hungry for carbs. Unless you have a severe form of mental retardation it should be possible for you to control what you eat.
I believe almost everyone in FPH knows this, but it doesn't matter if you have insulin resistance and your organs are all shot up, the fat concentrating in your belly won't matter much if your bf% is low.
I can't tell about water weight because it never really affected me that badly, but everything else sounds like excuses.
