The ER nurses used to call that "not quite dead yet" state "CTD." (Circling The Drain.)

Goodness! That is awful. I'm so glad you're okay!

I've been close, myself. I had a ruptured ulcer--well, I had an undiagnosed ulcer that ruptured. The doc who did the emergency surgery told my husband that judging by my blood gasses etc., I had about four hours left before going into septicemia/septic shock (my husband wasn't sure which the doc said, and I never asked). Then I had to have surgery again after developing a massive hematoma around the incision, and required 4L of blood over a couple of days (if memory serves). It was a very unpleasant experience, but nothing near what you went through.

Don't take a lot of ibuprofen on an empty stomach, folks. :-)
