How? Most hate it. Can’t remember the stats but certainly over 50% are not happy about taking care of fat patients. Doctors are the worst shitlords out there. Of course we all have sensitivity training and know how to tread carefully but I’m yet to see a nurse happy with her immobile 300lb assignment, a surgeon happily anticipating a CSection on a morbidly obese woman, or an anesthetist who is overly excited about intubating someone without a neck. It’s just more work, more stress, more opportunity for personal injury and liability. Plus for those of us who aren’t jaded yet, seeing someone young suffer complications way too untimely for their biological age is ...sad. What really sucks is that you cannot refuse care on the grounds of morbid obesity even when you know it’s going to cost you your back. Administration doesn’t really give many shits about proper staffing and a smaller hospital isn’t going to be able to afford an expensive bariatric lift. So it’s all on us. Do the fats care about the damage they inflict on fellow humans? Most don’t. I have to get back into strength training because I only have one back and a few kids to support for years to come.
