At this point, politicians are pretty much trapped. Any legislation to curtail the obesity crisis would be met with outrage by the fat majority. So we keep feeding and repairing these things until Lord Beetus blesses them with a visit mid-chew. Look at how much rage was generated by a simple and sensible idea like taxing soda. There's also the obvious fact that trying to slim down the public would alienate our politicians corporate masters who want everyone to keep gobbling down their products. Since obesity has become tied to neo-feminism, attempting to regulate Tubby's waistline gets shouted down as misogyny.
The end game? Same as always. Keep the dog & pony show rolling along just as it is. When it comes to profit, the motto has always been "fuck the future, I'm getting mine baby!"
